Daniel Zeichner MP this evening (Tuesday 17 March) challenged the Government to allow doctors and nurses who qualified in other countries and whose qualifications are not recognised in the U.K. to be allowed to join the NHS’s fight against Coronavirus.

The Cambridge MP told the Commons that a nurse who qualified in Canada had contacted him keen to do her bit. She is currently employed as a receptionist in the city. There are also Bangladeshi care workers with nursing qualifications from their original country who could be drafted in to do more.

Responding to Mr Zeichner the Chancellor promised to follow up with the Health Secretary.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “In these extraordinary times we need to pull together and destroy artificial barriers. I very much hope we can get highly trained professional staff who want to help onto the front line as soon as possible.”
