Following the Prime Minister’s statement, Daniel Zeichner MP said:

“I don’t trust the Prime Minister’s judgement, and I dislike his attempts at re-writing  history. Today he says he always knew that after the virus’ retreat there was a danger of a second wave. Remember this is the same man who in March promised to ‘turn the tide’ in the next 12 weeks. Today he told us that this won’t be over by Christmas and it is going to be a long haul. We got information about how to save lives with more social distancing, working from home and mask wearing but we also urgently need measures to support people’s livelihoods. This one-sized fits all approach is not working for the worst-hit parts of the economy and the most vulnerable. The Government also needs to fix testing – today I got yet more emails and calls from constituents including one who just told me he had been told to go to Solihull for a test. I will work constructively with others to support Cambridge people but it would help if we had a more competent Prime Minister who occasionally showed some humility.”
