The lack of laptops preventing children from learning at home, is still plaguing Cambridge.

Latest figures show 1748 children in the city do not have access to a device for home learning.

Quizzing the Education Secretary today in the Commons Daniel Zeichner MP highlighted the impact this was having on children’s learning and criticised the government for not planning properly for the latest lockdown.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “The minister’s response to my question was a bit hopeless – I’m not interested in him talking about devices already in circulation. The issue is that children who are studying right now at home need laptops – in fact they needed them weeks ago. The Government could and should have made sure that these laptops were in place long before closures were announced and now they just need to get their skates on! Divides are being entrenched as some children can access online learning while others struggle with photocopied text book pages. Yet all we heard from the minister was weary indifference.”
