The government has wasted millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money on the scrapped Ox-Cam road.

The £28 million figure was revealed by the Transport Minister a week after the government finally pulled the controversial scheme.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “What a waste and what a shame the government didn’t listen to voices of reason sooner. I had been calling for the scheme to hit the buffers for years including directly challenging the Prime Minister at PMQs. I can think of a lot better uses for £28 million than throwing it down the drain. At a time when council budgets are under strain we know that kind of cash would double the number of potholes we fill in, keep more street lights shining and help fund a pay rise for our key worker heroes.”
