On Friday, Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner, visited Cambridge Day Nursery to meet staff taking part in an exercise bike ride for charity.
The 13-hour static bike ride, aimed to raise money for Cancer Research UK and East Anglian Air Ambulance and saw staff members ride three exercise bikes in four-mile stints for a total of 236 miles, the equivalent of cycling from Cambridge to Brighton and back again. The nursery raised £1,285 on the day, exceeding their initial £1,000 target by some distance.
Mr Zeichner met with senior nursery manager, Rachel Watson, and participating staff before getting involved himself. He said: “I was delighted to attend Cambridge Day Nursery’s charity bike ride for two brilliant good causes, and was similarly glad I could “go the extra mile” by taking part myself. The atmosphere and sense of team spirit on the day was truly inspiring and representative of what Cambridge is all about”.
Staff member Rosie Hewitt, who organised the event, added: “we were delighted to have Daniel at the nursery and help us achieve our target miles. We have raised over a lot of money for charity and the fact that he came means so much to us”.
