In Parliament today, Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner challenged the Government on its plans to tackle online greenwashing. Mr Zeichner asked Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries to assure Parliament the Government will “crack down on these over-mighty, arrogant tech platforms”.

Mr Zeichner cited research by the Guardian, which found that search engines such as Google are disguising advertisements as search results. This was especially true of those linked to fossil fuel companies, so much so that ClientEarth described it as “endemic greenwashing”.

Nadine Dorries responded by stating that measures to tackle this would be included in the forthcoming Online Safety Bill, however this Bill has been repeatedly delayed by the Government.
