The Government’s latest plan for schools won’t tackle the historic underfunding of Cambridgeshire schools, or do enough for children who have suffered during Covid-19, said Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner in Parliament today.

Mr Zeichner pressed the Education Secretary, Nadhim Zahawi, on these issues during his statement to the House of Commons – but the MP was dissatisfied with the response. Mr Zeichner said: “The Government continues to tinker with structures, but on the really big issues they are silent. I’ve been visiting Cambridge schools virtually and in person, and what I have been seeing is very consistent. Teachers and staff doing a great job, pupils pleased to be back, but significant numbers who really suffered from the isolation during the pandemic. Labour has a clear plan to help them, but the Government’s response is inadequate. And that is only made worse by the historic underfunding that continues to make life tough for Cambridgeshire schools. The Education Secretary clearly has no intention of doing anything about this.”
