Today in Parliament, Daniel Zeichner, Member of Parliament for Cambridge, called out the punishing insurance premiums faced by some Cambridge residents living in leasehold properties impacted by the ongoing uncertainty around post-Grenfell fire safety measures.

Despite the properties being safe, many leaseholders still face excessive home insurance fees, with companies reluctant to provide cover.

Mr Zeichner has previously raised this issue with the Financial Conduct Authority. And today, he called for the Government to explain why Cambridge residents are still expected to put up with such high insurance premiums.

Mr Zeichner says “Following the Grenfell tragedy, many leaseholders have endured years of problems, extra costs and uncertainty. This is through no fault of their own, and Government mismanagement has made the situation worse Too many are finding that they are expected to pay punishing insurance premiums despite living in safe homes. Only Government can resolve this – leaseholders deserve swift answers”.
