Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner and Arbury Councillors Mike Todd-Jones, Patrick Sheil, and Iva Divkovic are concerned about the closure of McColl’s on Histon Road following the acquisition of McColl’s by Morrison’s and the subsequent effect on the community.

Daniel Zeichner MP said ‘The McColl’s store on Histon Road provided much needed groceries for the community and it would be very sad to see it go.  It is an important venue for much of Arbury and Cambridge North.  Moreover, it provides a post office service which relieves the pressure on the main Cambridge post office.  It is critical that in the regrettable event of a closure of McColl’s that the post office be relocated to a nearby location so members of the community can access the services close to them.’

Iva commented: “Accessibility is important to us, especially for North Cambridge, and we want residents to have more options to choose from. Should the post office be relocated, it must remain accessible to Arbury residents.” Councillors Todd-Jones and Sheil agree.

Patrick adds that he is ‘totally gutted that the excellent and vital service provided by the workers in that branch of McColl’s is now to be lost to the community’.

‘I completely depend on that Post Office at Christmastime’ said Patrick. ‘Don’t know what I’ll do now.’

The shop is scheduled to close after Christmas and New Year festivities.  People are encouraged to contact Cllrs Todd-Jones, Sheil, and Divkovic along with Daniel Zeichner MP about their concerns about the closures.
