Daniel Zeichner MP Standing up for Cambridge
After listening to today’s budget in the House of Commons, Daniel Zeichner MP said: “This is just the budget Britain didn’t need -; it will make the country more divided when in an uncertain global context we actually need to come together.
For thousands of already hard-pressed working families in high-cost Cambridge, cuts to their tax credits will make life even tougher. Students will lose maintenance grants, and nurses, teachers and council workers, face a real cut of at least 10% in income over the Parliament.
Too many jobs in Cambridge are insecure and low-paid -; what we needed was an investment in skills and the opportunity to improve our transport systems and housing. Instead, this was a highly political budget, designed to tickle Tory taste-buds and position the Chancellor in the battle to be next Tory leader.”
