Daniel Zeichner MP today visited Cuckoo Clothing and H&M in support of “Close the Door”.

As temperatures dip and winter approaches the Close the Door campaign are stepping up their campaign to persuade more retailers to keep their doors closed when using energy to heat or cool shops and so contribute towards cutting carbon emissions and slashing a shop’s energy usage in half.

Starting from just 8 Cambridge shops in 2011, the project has spread across 8 towns and cities and includes major retailers such as Tescos and Boots as well as independent shops such as Cuckoo Clothing.

Research suggests that if all retailers shut the door then UK energy usage could drop by 2.5 per cent.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Climate change is an urgent problem and yet sometimes it seems hard to know what local, individual actions we can take. Backing Close the Door is one of those actions. It’s no surprise that our local Cambridge initiative has grown from eight independent shops into an award winning national campaign backed by thousands of shops of all types and sizes including national retailers.”
