LIBRARY.jpgCampaigners met MP Daniel Zeichner outside the Central Library in a show of support ahead of a crucial County Council meeting on Tuesday 2 June to determine the future of the third floor of the library.

The County Council is hoping to allow a private company, KORA, to take over the third floor of the central library and turn it into a business lounge. The transformation would involve the loss of both the cafe and a significant amount of public community space.

Local campaigner Sara Payne updated Mr Zeichner on the campaign and reveal the latest number of signatures on the petition -; currently over 3800 – against the privatisation

Daniel Zeichner said: “I understand that the county council is in a dire financial situation because of government cuts but the central library is an important community space in the heart of our city that local people really value.

Today is about showing the county council the strength of local feeling and our deep concerns about the loss of this public asset.”
