To mark Human Rights Day, Daniel Zeichner MP wrote to authorities in Myanmar calling on them to release from prison Phyoe Phyoe Aung, the Secretary General of the All Burma Federation Student Union.

Phyoe Phyoe Aung has been in prison since 10th March 2015 after being violently arrested during a protest against education reforms.

Joining Amnesty International staff and campaigners in the Speakers House, Daniel Zeichner MP wrote a letter as part of “Write for Rights”, Amnesty’s letter-writing marathon -; the biggest human rights campaign in the world.

They ask the public to send personal messages of support and solidarity to people behind bars for simply exercising their human rights.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “As a Member of Parliament, I know all too well the power of the pen, and the impact that can be achieved when many voices rally around one call. I am hoping that my message, and those of others sent during Amnesty’s Write for Rights campaign, will send a clear message to governments that the world is watching and human rights must be respected.”
