foodbank.jpgCambridge MP Daniel Zeichner is urging generous hearted members of the local community to help stop hunger in Cambridge by donating gifts of food at Tesco’s sixth annual Neighbourhood Food Collection scheme.

The MP joined staff and shoppers at the Campkin Road Tesco Express to collect food as the retailer holds the biggest ever UK-wide food collection.

Upon entering the store, customers are offered a specially selected shopping list and asked to pick up an item of food such as powdered milk, tinned meat, fish or meat and long-life fruit juice before donating it at the end of the shop.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Even in a prosperous city like Cambridge many people are affected by food poverty which is why initiatives like this from Tescos are so important.

Unfortunately the way the Government is punishing our most vulnerable citizens means that we are going to need the foodbank for some time yet. In those circumstances, they need all the help they can get.”
