Daniel Zeichner MP and local councillors took a walk along Mill Road to meet traders and spread the news that Mill Road is open for business.

The Mill Road Traders Association say their members have seen a significant loss in takings of between 25% and 60% after the closure of the bridge, gas works and the fire.

Many of the independent shops and quirky cafes believe that some of the disruption could have been avoided if Govia Thameslink (GTR) and the County Council had provided clearer signs, and more publicity, to promote the fact that local businesses are open as usual despite the bridge closure.

The MP is in contact with the County Council and Govia Thameslink. In the meantime he is urging all residents to use the shops. He said: “Please spread the message to your friends and family that the Mill Road shops are open and full of all the amazing produce they sell all year round.”
