The Uniting Care collapse was discussed in Parliament. This debate was the first time a government minister was questioned directly on the debacle that saw the biggest tendering process in NHS history collapse after just eight months.

Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner demanded answers on the role that the Department of Health and Ministers played in the run up to the contract being awarded just before the General Election, and paid tribute to campaigners who asked powerful questions during the process but were fobbed off.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “I pressed for assurances that sufficient resources will now be made available to ensure that the move to an outcomes based system is secured. If that doesn’t happen, millions of pounds of public money will have been wasted, and thousands of staff transferred between NHS organisations for nothing. Cambridgeshire has been subjected to a series of failed Tory privatisation experiments – now we need our local health services to get back to the basics of providing good care.”
