Daniel Zeichner MP joined the Cambridge Amnesty International Group outside the Market Square.
The local MP added his name to the list of signatories that the Amnesty International Cambridge City Group’s Asylum Justice members will be collecting from Cambridge residents.
The human rights group put the signatures onto large posters which will be displayed in community spaces before a big march in London urging the government to show that Britain is ready to welcome more refugees.
Cambridge City Council negotiated with the government for financial support for refugees.
Daniel Zeichner MP said: “We face a major humanitarian crisis and much of the international community has responded by opening their doors and agreeing to offer sanctuary to more refugees. I know that Cambridge people want to uphold our great tradition of humanitarian support. I’m proud to say Cambridge welcomes refugees.”
