Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner visited Cambridge University Hospital at Addenbrooke’s this morning to see first hand how A&E staff are coping during the tough winter period.

Mr Zeichner met with Dr Mike More, interim Chair of CUH and they toured the Accident and Emergency department to see how staff on the ground are getting by.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “I was already aware of how well the staff here at Addenbrooke’s are coping so it was my pleasure to be able to meet some of them and thank them for their hard work during this busy winter period.

“Following another winter crisis the Government needs to step up and provide local A&E departments with adequate funding, not lay the blame at the feet of frontline staff who are doing their best in tough situations.”

Mike More, Interim CUH Chair, said: “Like many hospitals CUH is very busy, and we are asking people to think about using alternative services such as their GP or local pharmacist before coming to hospital.

“Our staff are working incredibly hard under intense pressure this winter and we are regularly seeing more than 300 attendances a day at our A&E.”
