Daniel Zeichner MP met refugees and asylum seekers at Cambridge United FC on Monday 17 April.

Cambridge United hosted a number of refugees and asylum seekers living locally to their home game as part of a new Amnesty International initiative to celebrate the contribution refugees have made to football.

The event was followed by a Kick It Out match between Cambridge and Exeter. In advance of the game, Cambridge United have delivered anti-discrimination assemblies to over 4,000 local children with the help of its first team players.

The event follows Daniel’s recent visit to the club’s Chesterton Soccer School with first team player Josh Coulson, Cambridge United Community Trust CEO Ben Szreter and members of Cambridge United Women’s FC to launch the Club’s Kick It Out campaign on Friday 17 February.

Daniel Zeichner, a season ticket holder at Cambs Glass Stadium, said: “Cambridge United Community Trust have shown yet again that they are doing fantastic work to remove discrimination from football by teaching our children about the best values of the sport.

“Cambridge is a proud city of diversity and tolerance. Cambridge United play a hugely important role in the life of our city, especially at the moment by their commitment to working better internationally to solve the refugee and asylum crisis.”
