Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge, will tomorrow attend a Duke of Edinburgh award ceremony at The Performance Hall, Comberton Sports and Arts. During the ceremony, around 30 awardees from the Cambridgeshire Local Authority and voluntary groups will receive their Gold Award in front of an audience of around 200 people.
Mr Zeichner has said, “it is a pleasure to be attending Cambridgeshire’s Duke of Edinburgh Award ceremony and would like to congratulate all the winners of the Gold Award. You have to demonstrate real gut and determination to achieve your Gold Award and it is really impressive to see so many young people engaged in the programme.
This is a great programme as it provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to develop skills and knowledge that you can’t learn in the classroom alone. I commend all those that take part in this and encourage others looking for a new challenge to think about taking part.
To achieve a Gold award each participant has to take part in a physical activity (Physical section), pursue a personal interest (Skill section), spend a minimum of 12 months volunteering (Volunteering section), complete a 4-day expedition (Expedition section) and join a 5 day residential experience (Residential section).
