Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge, will tomorrow (Friday 31 August) join a staff member of the Lion Yard cleaning team and assist in attending to the toilet facilities. Mr Zeichner hopes to get an insight into one of the more hidden and undervalued jobs of Cambridge, but one that provides a great service to the city.

Daniel Zeichner said: “It is a hard job being undertaken by the staff here at the Lion Yard and one that rarely gets the public recognition it deserves. The hours are long and being on your feet for 12 hours is exhausting. I understand that the reputation of the facilities has improved dramatically since the refurbishment in 2014 and that is a credit to the team that are working here.”

“I would like to thank the staff for letting me join them this morning.”

The Lion Yard toilets cleaning contract is delivered by Churchill Service Solutions on behalf of the City Council. The facilities were refurbished over a three-month period in 2014 (March – June) with significantly higher quality, modern and more accessible facilities being implemented. The site is the most heavily used public toilets in the city, with thousands of users per day

The site is open from 8:30
to 20:00 Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 20:00 on Sunday.
