With Tory leadership hopefuls lining up to support a no-deal Brexit, Daniel Zeichner MP has welcomed the Labour Party’s decision to table a motion to ensure Brexit cannot be railroaded through Parliament. (Tomorrow Wednesday 12 June.)

Labour is using its “Opposition Day” to debate a special motion which, if agreed, would mean Parliament as a whole, rather than Conservative Government ministers choose which laws are voted on for the day. This would guarantee an opportunity for MPs to introduce legislation to prevent a new Tory Prime Minister pursuing a no deal Brexit on 31st October.

Mr Zeichner said: “While the Tory leadership candidates outline increasingly reckless plans solely aimed at placating Nigel Farage and their dwindling band of out-of-touch members, it is down to Labour to once again put our country first.

“I want to stop Brexit altogether but it’s also vital we ensure MPs have the power to stop the lunacy of a no-deal Brexit which would decimate our economy.”
