Reacting to the news of the US air strike on 3 January which killed Iranian General Qassem Suleimani, Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner said:

“This is a dangerous situation and all our efforts should be focused on de-escalation of tensions and preventing a descent into further bloody conflict.

“Alongside our European allies we need to engage, not isolate Iran and see if we can keep alive the remnants of the nuclear deal. When Parliament re-starts on Tuesday I will be urging the government to ask the Americans to show restraint.

“Now is the time for calm and discussion as further conflict will only bring more misery to the region and danger to the world.”
