Shopping bags in hand, this “Small Business Saturday” Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner kicked off his Christmas shopping as he supported local businesses in Cambridge city centre, encouraging residents to “shop local” and “shop safely”.

Small Business Saturday, now in its eighth year, is a grassroots campaign that celebrates the contributions of small businesses to local communities, with an emphasis on driving shoppers into city centres during the festive period.

Last year an estimated £800m was spent in small businesses across the UK on Small Business Saturday.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Small businesses drive the economy and local shops represent the backbone of our communities. 2020 has been unbelievably tough for the retail sector which is why “Small Business Saturday” is even more important this year. I know local shops and cafes have worked really hard to ensure their premises are COVID-secure and so, as national restrictions are lifted, I encourage Cambridge residents who feel safe to visit our excellent local shops. As we all do our Christmas shopping, let’s help support the independent and quirky shops that make Cambridge special”.
