“Get tested!” that’s the message from Cambridge’s Daniel Zeichner MP who is visiting METUP UK’s exhibition at the Grand Arcade in Cambridge.

The MP is strongly supporting METUP UK’s work on raising awareness and testing for secondary breast cancer and Metastatic Breast Cancer during this Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Secondary Breast Cancer and Metastatic Breast Cancer are the largest killers for women under 50 in the UK, but yet have not have the same level of awareness around them as regular breast cancer.  There is an immense backlog in the NHS for people suffering from secondary breast cancer.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness of metastatic or secondary breast cancer by providing 31 transparent figures, representing how a person dies every day from this scourge, which will have a video where a patient will relay their experiences.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: ‘Thank you to our METUP UK for raising awareness around these less-known forms of breast cancer. Your exhibition is timely and thought-provoking and shows how much more needs to be done.

Everyone knows our precious NHS is really stretched due to cuts and this is leading to lives being lost to secondary and metastatic breast cancer.

Every person who gets tested early has a better chance of identifying the warning signs and being treated before it is too late.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the UK and affects men as well as women.  Early identification of the symptoms is critical in treatment and care and the variety of breast cancers mean that even if you don’t think you are at risk you may be.  The work charities like METUP UK do in pushing for further research will be a literal lifesaver’.
